International travel with one carry-on bag of ten kilograms? You bet. There are good reasons to go light, and it's easier than you might think.
International travel with hand luggage? It makes life on the road so much easier.
The last time my wife and I went to Ecuador, I had 10 pounds of luggage in a luggage. Ana was 8 pounds in his hand luggage. We spent six weeks in Ecuador, at the time of the glaciers covered mountains, and other times lounging on the beaches of the Pacific Coast.
Why travel so light? Simplicity. Since we only had hand luggage, we were in a restaurant in Quito, while others were waiting for their checked baggage. When we were on the bus, our luggage was safely with us, not in the cellar downstairs is open, as I did years ago when I was in Mexico.
A distressed travelers to their hotels, with three heavy bags. Meanwhile, we are walking comfortably with our day packs. With less to lose, unless they are stolen, less than expected, much less pack and unpack in hotels, there were fewer concerns.
International Travel Packing List - Six tries in Ecuador
8 pairs of thin nylon socks (ounce per pair) 2 silk shirts (3 ounces each) 4 poly / cotton blend T-shirts (5-6 ounces each), 5 pairs of pants light (2-3 ounces each) 1 pants lightweight (9 ounces), waterproof / breathable rain suit (14 oz set) Light plastic camera (3 ounces) Sunglasses (1 ounce) of a small chess set (3 ounces) toiletries (5 ounces) Single layer nylon shorts for hiking or swimming (2 ounces) thin gloves (1 ounce), Thin hat (1 ounce - honestly), thin sweater (11 ounces), maps, notebooks and small things (3 or 4 pounds ) My weight in your suitcase? Ten pounds. Narrated Anas: 8 pounds. We really never felt deprived. Of course, you need not begin to calculate the ounces (that comes in my backpacking days). What you need to do is rethink what you really need to make the trip. Leave behind the things that never end up using, and remember that you can buy things as you go too.
You do not necessarily need to buy new clothes, or buy a scale and count ounces. Just choose the lighter alternative whenever you can. Put your light jacket, pants, shirts and socks for your next trip. The goal, after all, is simplicity, not complexity of planning.
The most important thing is to think about what you really need to have fun and try to limit the compression of these issues. Money is the first thing that comes to mind, and weighs a lot. What other things? International travel is about moving away from home, so why try to take it with you?
