El Puerto de Santa Maria is a popular choice for family holidays but also by the local rich, who have built their own apartment or a villa in Playa Puntillo. The locals are called "gaditanos" and the rich is called "Seville".
Although this part of the region are a bit far from major cities, it is still easily accessible by local bus. For those who like a ride, a walk of 10 minutes to 15 minutes from the city will take you to El Puerto. It is a good choice to spend your afternoon, because it has a nice atmosphere with nice bars on the beach.
Highlights in El Puerto
The biggest attraction of the town are rows of shops painted white along the streets and river banks, called bodegas sherry. Before the railway was extended to Cadiz, all shipments of sherry transported via the port of Santa Maria. And there were opportunities for free wine tasting and cellar tours for visitors to the vineyards of the region, even though they are rare today.

There are tours that visitors can find the historical and architectural beauties of this region. Interestingly, in these tourist centers that are located in the monastery of 17 th century, which is converted into a beautiful resort.
