Mount Benson Signature Mountain Of Nanaimo
Magnificent Mount Benson Isone scenic wonders of Nanaimo, British Columbia on the west coast ofVancouver Island, Canada. Unfortunately, this paradise under threat. Forestrycompanies want to harvest timber on the mountain, while development companieswant to build luxury homes and resorts on the cleared land. If loggingwere to proceed, the ugly clearcuts would be an eyesore for decades come.Hiking trails would be destroyed, and wild animals flee. If subdivisionscreep steep slopes, the damage will be permanent.
Ithas happened here before. In 1930, Mount Benson, was recorded, and in 1951 destroyed the reform of the forest fire. In the summer of 2003, as theforest was again stabilized, the recording has started fresh on the north-east of ofMount Benson, who completely dominates the city. This infuriated the public and acampaign Save Mount Benson started.
In 2004 the logging stopped after the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) enterednegotiations with landowners to purchase the affected areas. 2005 ownersagreed to sell their property to the RDN for $ 950,000, and in March 2006 and regional studies theNanaimo Land Trust (NAL) has come forward with a promise to raise funds through government grants halfthe.
The212 acre Mount Benson Regional Park will stretch along the top front faceof Mount Benson. An adjacent 383 hectares of provincial Crown is currentlyleased at Malaspina University-College as an educational woodland that protects itagainst clear cutting. Discussions are underway with the island of Timberland and Timber West to buy or barter other face mountain'sfront properties. Together, NAL and the Navy hopes to develop a comprehensive management plan of the mountain.
Apart from its aesthetic value, Mount Benson, Nanaimo Regional Park will travel Canadianeco superstar hiking and mountain biking in the summer skiing and snowshoeing andcross in winter. Mountain Park from Newcastle Island Provincial willcomplement's Marine Park and the Laguna splendidPipers point of the neck more and parks along the coast. InThe virgin rainforest near Linley Valley Park will be developed.
