China is the third largest nation in the world by land area and most of the population. China is surrounded by the Republic of Mongolia and Russia to the north of Russia and North Korea on the north-east of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea, east by the South China Sea to the South Bhutan, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, India and south-western Nepal, from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan to the west, and by Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in the north- west. China covers 6,000,000 square miles and spanning 60 longitudinal degrees.For centuries, China has played a leading role in civilization, excelling in art and science.
